Plot Diagram
As we move through To Kill a Mockingbird, consider the elements of plot that we discussed in class. Review the Plot Diagram image below and identify To Kill a Mockingbird's different plot elements. What event would you attached to what element?
Research and Research Projects
As we discussed in class, everyone will be presenting a research project over a novel we've read this year in class. I would highly suggest you begin your research early. Google Scholar is a great resource to find articles on the texts we are reading. For example, if you click on the Google Scholar link and type "To Kill a Mockingbird" in the search field, you will be taken to numerous articles relevant to our reading. Many of these articles would be great to use as a source for your final research project. If you find an article that you find interesting, please share it on our blog! If you would like to use your findings in your project, and you have questions, just let me know and we will have a look! Many students find research assignments/projects intimidating, but never fear! Have a look at the chart below and write down a 1 or 2 ideas of what it means to you in terms of research. We will discuss the chart and your ideas in class!
Harper Lee and To Kill a Mockingbird
Let's
get started! The first novel we will be reading this semester is To
Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Author, Harper Lee, has been in the
news lately with the announcement that she is releasing a second book decades
after her she published her first, our reading. To
Kill a Mockingbird. Harper Lee's story as a writer is a fascinating one, since her most famous book is her only published work! Before we get into reading her famous and historically groundbreaking novel, check out Harper's website Harper Lee, to learn a little bit about more about her as well as our reading before we begin.
What are You Reading?!
Welcome everyone! Before we get into this semester's material, let talk about reading! Over the winter break, I read Amy Poehler's biography, Yes, Please, but I had several other books on my reading list that I had wished I had gotten to. What are some of the books that you read this past year? Or if everyone was as busy as I was, what is on your list to read soon? If you don't or haven't really had something specific reading radar, check out this website, YA Books Central. This is a great site that offers lists of all different genres of Young Adult novels, and reviews of readers! Tell me what kinds things you like or would like to read outside the classroom!
